Despite the name, Comic-Con isn't all about the comic books. A substantial portion of the event is dedicated to movies and games, and in some cases, movies

about

games. We just sat in in a panel for the upcoming CGI film Resident Evil: Degeneration. Doing the talking was the pair of creative forces behind the movie, producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi (the man behind Resident Evil 4) and director Makato Kamiya (special effects director behind numerous Japanese monster movies, including Godzilla).

The film stars Leon and Claire, the pair of heroes from Resident Evil 2. Claire bears witness to a bioterror attack at an American airport, and Leon is quickly flown in to deal with the zombie-infested aftermath. In terms of timelines, the movie is set seven years after the events of Raccoon City and one year after Leon's jaunt through rural Spain in Resident Evil 4.

Kobayashi was giventhe choice of numerous Japanese directors, but he went with Kamiya because he says he's long been a fan of Kamiya's CGI work in monster movies like 2001's Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Kamiya touts himself as a diehard Resident Evil fan, as well. It seems the pair have a healthy amount of professional respect for each other, which is always a good sign when dealing with such a beloved franchise.

It wasn't all talking, though, as they unveiled a slick trailer to appease the legion of hungry zombie cosplayers in the audience. It starts with Claire in an ordinary airport as she notices a suspicious character walk by. We can only assume he's the bioterrorist, because a moment later the city is dealing with a zombie outbreak. We see a female news reporter do her best to relay the terror while citizens flee in terror behind her and police helicopters circle overhead. Then we're introduced to Leon, and that's when the action in the trailer kicks up. It's the same sort of anti-zombie violence we all know and love, with a few campy lines thrown in for good measure. At one point a panic-stricken survivor exclaims that he shot a zombie point blank to no effect, and Leon responds dry as a bone, "Shoot them in the head."

The trailer should be available on our site soon, so stay tuned for that and more coverage on the movie.
